There are currently 3,575 jobs listed on ConnectingColorado.com within the Food Preparation and Serving Related category. According to EMSI, 9,577 open positions within the restaurant industry were listed in Colorado just last week, and more than 12,000 positions were open in all of March, 2021. You can find employment opportunities in the sector by visiting

ConnectingColorado.com and selecting “Accomodation and Food Services” from the “Employer Industry” dropdown menu. The Colorado Restaurant Association also has positions available on its website.

Now I can’t understand why people wouldn’t want to give up getting paid to stay at home and work at a restaurant for $7 and hour plus tips. But maybe it’s just me. But it seems that so few other people want to work at restaurants that the Colorado government has had to start implementing new rules.

Important Work Search Requirement Update

As you know, you are required to participate in and complete work search activities each week in order to maintain your eligibility to receive unemployment benefits. This includes showing up and providing accurate information to scheduled job interviews. Under a new rule which became effective this week, CDLE can disqualify you from receiving further benefits if you fail to show up to a scheduled interview, fail to show up for a scheduled exam, fail to report for the first scheduled day of new work, and/or fail to complete required pre-employment activities unless you can provide a reasonable, verifiable justification for the specific failure.

The new rule also allows for a disqualification if you provide false or incorrect information during the course of a job interview that would incorrectly lead an employer to consider you unqualified for the job or be unable to contact you to offer you the job.

But wait. The abuse of the unemployment has gotten so out of control that now this. Incentive payments to get a job.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing across much of the state, businesses across Colorado are increasing staffing and providing more opportunities for Coloradans to return to work.

Today, Governor Jared Polis signed an executive order establishing Colorado Jumpstart, a return to work incentive program designed to help out-of-work Coloradans transition back to full time employment. Under this program, Colorado unemployment claimants currently receiving state unemployment benefits or Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits may be eligible to receive an incentive payment of $1,200 to $1,600 if they return to work full time between May 16 and June 26, 2021.
