While anyone can become infected with an STI, certain groups, including young people and gay and bisexual men are at greatest risk.
CDC estimates that nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted infections occur every year in this country.
Young people (ages 15-24) account for 50% of all new STIs, although they represent just 25% of the sexually experienced population.
Both young men and young women are heavily affected by STDs — but young women face the most serious long-term health consequences. It is estimated that undiagnosed STDs cause 24,000 women to become infertile each year.
Compared to older adults, sexually active adolescents 15-19 years of age and young adults 20-24 years of age are at higher risk for acquiring STIs for a combination of behavioral, biological, and cultural reasons.
The higher prevalence of STIs among adolescents reflects multiple barriers to accessing quality STI prevention services, including lack of insurance or other inability to pay, lack of transportation, discomfort with facilities and services designed for adults, and concerns about confidentiality.

In my education, I have spent a great deal of time discussing racism as a social determinant of health, and I’ve seen it in action both in the U.S. and in South Africa. We have more than enough research proving that racism has a negative effect on health.
It’s time for public health professionals to take this outside the classroom, and make dismantling systemic racism a public health priority.

This in an op-ed piece. Not a report nor study. Millennials can’t tell the difference.

This is the report they thought they were linking to.
The study on racial and ethnic disparities was commissioned by the Congress, and had as its specific charge:
To assess the extent of racial and ethnic differences in healthcare that are not otherwise attributable to known factors, such as access to care (e.g., ability to pay or insurance coverage)
To evaluate potential sources of racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare, including the role of bias, discrimination, and stereotyping at the individual(provider and patient), institutional, and health system levels; and,
To rovide recommendations regarding interventions to eliminate healthcare disparities. A word about the composition of the committee. Members included practitioners, medical educators, nurses, behavioral scientists, economists, health lawyers, sociologists, and policy experts. All of the major racial and ethnic minorities were represented on the committee. A majority was white.

Here is another study. Science.
Conclusions
Although this study of clinicians from surgical and other related specialties did not demonstrate any association between implicit race or social class bias and clinical decision making, existing biases might influence the quality of care received by minority patients and those of lower socioeconomic status in real-life clinical encounters. Further research incorporating patient outcomes and data from actual clinical interactions is warranted to clarify the effect of clinician implicit bias on the provision of health care and outcomes.
