I attempt to avoid slipping into a food coma by reading from and ranting about the book ADHD Nation: Children, Doctors, Big Pharma, and the Making of an American Epidemic by Alan Schwarz.

In this episode:

1. No matter how many children are diagnosed with ADHD it’s never enough. The problem is always under-diagnoses.

2. Schools get additional money if they have children with ADHD. Thus schools strive to get more childryns diagnosed with ADHD. This is why you don’t reward bad behaviour.

3. A woman (woman logic in action) who cares about the childryns tells us that only 30% of college students who don’t have ADHD using ADHD medication is good because that means 70% are not using it.

That’s like saying 30% of college women getting raped is good because it means 70% of college women are not getting raped.

And this sort of “logic” is why women should not be allowed to vote, have jobs or own property.

4. ADHD medication is an amphetamine. Amphetamines suppress appetite.

Thus Shire pharmaceutical convinced the American Psychiatric Associate that eating too much food is a disorder called “binge eating”.

Thus Shire pharmaceutical “convinced the FDA” (the FDA that regulates corporations and protects citizens from the corporations) to approve Vyvanse as a treatment for binge eating.

Shire invented a disorder that could be treated with an existing drug.

And there was much money to be made.

I’m so happy the government is protecting me from the corporations. What would I ever do without the government protecting me?

I’m convinced.
