A spokesperson for Frankfurt City Council told Sky News that event organiser Messe Frankfurt will be instructed to terminate the contract with the concert agency, adding that “the letter of termination for this is currently being voted on”.
Four days later on 28 February, Munich City Council introduced a motion to cancel a concert scheduled for 21 May at the Munich Olympiahalle.
The motion said Waters “keeps stirring up antisemitic resentment” and also accused him of “spreading conspiracy ideologies that justify Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine”.
Blah blah blah.
Describing the cancellations as “unconstitutional” and “unjustified”, the statement claims that those decisions were made based “on the false accusation that Roger Waters is anti-Semitic, which he is not.”
They add that “this blatant attempt to silence him could have serious and far-reaching consequences for artists and activists around the world if left unchallenged.”
Last month, the city of Frankfurt announced that they would cancel a Roger Waters concert scheduled for 28 May at the publicly owned Festhalle venue.
Calling the singer “one of the world’s best-known antisemites”, the city’s municipal government cited Waters’ support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, antisemitic imagery at his shows and past interviews with media affiliated with the Hamas terror group as the reasons for their decision.

Waters wrote an open letter to Olena Zelenska in which he blamed “extreme nationalists” in Ukraine for having “set your country on the path to this disastrous war”.
Angered by his comments, a city councillor in the Polish city of Krakow – where Waters and his band were due to play live next spring – scheduled a vote on declaring the musician a “persona non grata”, and now the concerts have been cancelled.
Lukasz Wantuch said: “Allowing Roger Waters, an open supporter of Putin, to play in Krakow… would be shameful for our city.
“Let him sing in Moscow.”

In February, magistrates in Frankfurt instructed the venue for Waters’ 28 May concert in the city to cancel it, arguing that Waters was “one of the most widely known antisemites” in the world.
Waters has long been an opponent of Israel over its activity in Palestine, describing it as an “apartheid state” that is guilty of “ethnic cleansing”, and supports a cultural boycott of the country. He has long denied antisemitism and claimed that his enmity is with Israel rather than Judaism, and has accused Israel of “abusing the term antisemitism to intimidate people, like me, into silence”.
Frankfurt’s council also highlighted Waters’ historical use of a Star of David emblazoned on a pig prop as part of his stage show. In 2013, Rogers was accused of antisemitism for using the image, but he countered that the pig, which he said represented “evil, and more specifically the evil of errant government”, also featured “the crucifix, the crescent and star, the hammer and sickle, the Shell Oil logo and the McDonald’s sign, a dollar sign and a Mercedes sign … The Star of David represents Israel and its policies and is legitimately subject to any and all forms of non violent protest. To peacefully protest against Israel’s racist domestic and foreign policies is not antisemitic.”
