Another new insult that applies to me.
I’m way out of the loop on lots of things. It’s because I don’t give a fuck about pop culture. I’m about to write an offensive phrase. You are shocked aren’t you? Ready? Here is it:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
People like me who believe in limited government and who take the Constitution seriously are dangerous to “democracy” (read: rule by the Democrat party).
The tenther constitution, however, reads each of these powers very narrowly — too narrowly, it turns out, to permit much of the progress of the last century. As the nation emerges from the worst economic downturn in three generations, the tenthers would strip away the very reforms and economic regulations that beat back the Great Depression, and they would hamstring any attempt to enact new progressive legislation.
Bloody fucking right I would strip away the very reforms and regulations which caused and prolonged the Great Depression and are currently taking us into the “Greatest Recession Since The Great Depression TM“. And yes, you bet your fucking lazy welfare riding ass that I want to hamstring “progressive” (read: determined by popularity polls) legislation.
But, if you believe that the word “people” means the “the citizens of the United States” in every instance of use in the Constitution except for the 2nd Amendment where suddenly it means “the militia” you are a completely sane. And probably have a Ph.D. as people with less than 8 years of college can’t be that stupid.
I agree that expecting the government to scale back and comply with the 1oth Amendment is unrealistic. Too many people are receiving money from the government or deriving their power over others from the government.
Still, that doesn’t mean they’re wrong, now. Or crazy. It’s a daft sort of logic: Reading an explicitly worded amendment to the Constitution as it was written puts you in company with 9/11 conspiracists, while the serious, non-crazy, mainstream position is simply picking and choosing those portions of the Constitution you find agreeable.
Democrats are getting pretty desperate for slurs. I’m proud to be a “tenther” and you can suck my 10 inch dick.
